Digital Art Intervention

For my digital art intervention I chose to create the website of a weight loss drug company. I have tried many different weight loss techniques and pills myself, including this one, and have found that all but one work. They offer the best results and tell you that all these amazing things will happen by using their products but in reality they are all a gimmick.  In fact, from my experience what they do offer the most of is side affects. People just like myself waste their money on companies like this and are being robbed everyday.

Video Reproduction

The original: http://www.ubu.com/film/lee_sally.html

The reproduction:
For my video reproduction I chose to remake Helen Lee's 1990 video entitled "Sally's Beauty Spot." What appealed to me about this video was the audio and video composition which Helen Lee used. The audio was very diverse and used found sounds along with voice recordings. Her video was a compilation of images of a beauty mark on her chest and her trying to remove it because she felt shameful about having it, and also images of her in what seemed to be past relationships and how they felt about her Asian heritage and how they regarded diversity. Beauty marks give us originality but at the same time are seen by some as inconsistencies in the skin. I believe they are beautiful and are specific to each individual. When it came to reproducing the video I felt that it was only appropriate that I relate her work to myself, since I have a large beauty mark as well. I used the 1st minute of Lee's audio track and combined it with a video track in which I emulated some of the behaviors which Lee showed the subject doing in the original video. I wanted to exemplify the negative connotations that come along with having such a unique characteristic.

Chapter 2 Video Art Questions

Question 1: The article discusses that Paik's filming of the video was art because he was a recognized artist associated with experimental music and performance. What would the case had been if Paik had not been recognized for these? Would it have been possible to do what he did if he was the average videographer?

Question 2: The article says that Television benefited artists. If that is true then are artists benefitting from television more than tv networks? Or are tv networks benefitting more than the artists?
